Snapper Science Program: Theme 1 - Biology and Ecology

The Snapper Science Program's Theme 1, Biology and Ecology, addresses critical gaps in understanding Snapper biology for sustainable fishery management in South Australia (SA). Key objectives include investigating factors influencing Snapper recruitment variability amidst climate change, defining stock structures on Eyre Peninsula's west coast, reviewing biological parameters across SA, and surveying benthic habitats in Gulf St Vincent. The program aims to develop predictive tools for fishery-independent assessment and management strategies. By linking environmental variables to recruitment patterns, evaluating local demographic processes, updating long-term biological datasets, and assessing habitat changes, the research seeks to provide a holistic understanding of Snapper dynamics. Ultimately, these efforts aim to inform evidence-based policies and conservation measures that sustainably manage Snapper populations and their habitats in SA waters
