Opportunity for
- Meat processors, food and beverage manufacturers or other manufacturing operations that need to remove pathogens from liquid.
Opportunity description
Industry challenge
Low-clarity liquids with high solids loading normally would require either chlorine dosage or significant filtering before treatment with UV with Supercritical UV these can effectively be disinfected with up to 5log removal for pathogens. Supercritical UV comes in a modular system able to treat from 570m3/day up to 50 megaliters per day.
Current opportunity
Novolabs is a new company and already has a significant market share in New Zealand with most abattoir sites electing to use the technology when upgrading as well as applications in municipal wastewater, process and the food and beverage industry. Novolabs is looking for opportunities to aid its expansion into the Australian market in 2024.
Opportunity background
This proprietary technology, Supercritical UV, was commercialised out of 15 years of research at Massey University. The technology is now globally patented and has been recognised by both industry and leaders in the market as a substantial breakthrough as the first UV technology to tackle low-clarity liquids. The technology recently won "Best Hardware Solution" "Most Innovative Deep Tech Solution" and "Most Sustainable Technology for a Better Future" at the New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.
Potential other applications
At the recent Ifat conference in Germany, several consultants and fellow UV manufactures noted the potential for applications in the Food and Beverage industry as well as pharmaceuticals or sugar processing.
